1st Dibs
This online marketplace connecting people, shops and galleries in the art and antiques trade began with a few dealers whom founder Michael Bruno had encountered at legendary Parisian antiques market Marché Aux Puces. Today, it is a brilliant place to find rare pieces.

Alfies Antique Market
‘For vintage inspiration, head to Alfies Antiques Market and the surrounding shops in Lisson Grove,’ advises designer Malene Birger, who adds that she enjoys ‘browsing these relics of the past and bringing them into the present’.
13–25 Church Street, Marylebone, London NW8 (alfiesantiques.com)

Clay John
Very much a local name – it doesn’t have a website – this antiques shop is filled with charming stock. ‘When I went in most recently, I saw a set of six retro-style chairs painted in primary colours – it was all I could do to not pull a smash and grab,’ says ELLE Decoration’s Shopping Assistant Harald Donoghue.
263 New King’s Road, London SW6

Hemswell Antiques Centre
Situated in a former RAF station in Lincolnshire is the largest antiques centre in Europe (pictured). Explore collections from more than 400 dealers, including everything from vintage kitchenalia (we spotted copper kettles and a brass pestle and mortar), furniture and artwork to leather goods, watches and walking sticks.
Caenby Corner Estate, Hemswell Cliff, Gainsborough DN21 (hemswell-antiques.com)

Experts in mid-century furnishings, Modern Shows runs events across London in collaboration with up to 100 dealers of vintage and modern collectable furniture. Join its online community, The Modern Marketplace, to gain access to special discounts and a comprehensive shopping directory. (modernshows.com)

Peppermill Antiques
As well as a fine range of antique furniture, Peppermill Antiques in Staffordshire creates reproduction pieces and takes commissions. Check out its restaurant-furniture section for bistro tables and cafe chairs – the perfect breakfast set-up for a compact kitchen.
Unit 9a, Watling Street Business Park, Cannock WS11 (peppermillantiques.com)

Puckhaber Decorative Antiques
Expect to find ladders, vintage paint buckets and aged trunks at Puckhaber, which is one of our favourite shops on Fulham’s Lillie Road – a street that’s fast becoming the ultimate one-stop destination for antiques in West London. It’s home to 19 different stores specialising in everything from traditional French antiques to mid-century design classics.

Rose Uniacke
Located at the heart of Pimlico’s interiors hub, Rose Uniacke’s store comes particularly recommended by jewellery designer Monica Vinader, who calls it a ‘must for amazing Art Deco pieces’.
