Abel and Cole
With an emphasis on organic, seasonal food Abel and Cole is best known for it veg box delivery service, but you don’t have to sign up for regular deliveries to sample its fresh fare. Excellent meat, vegetables, dairy, baked goods, store cupboard essentials and drinks are all available.
Based in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, Donald Russell delivers prime quality meat and seafood all year round. If any further assurance of the quality of its produce is required, know that the Queen is one of its customers. It also sells excellent ready meals that are good enough to serve to the most exacting of guests if cooking isn’t your forte. The dessert selection (made by in-house pastry chefs) is particularly good.

Handmade by Hadleys
Described by chef Jean Christophe Novelli as ‘the best ice cream I’ve ever tasted,’ the hand-whipped confections by Jane Hadley and her team of four have won the ultimate accolade: three gold stars at the Great Taste Awards. Since opening the first farm shop in the UK in 1974 Allen Hinchliffe’s butchers shop in Huddersfield has won numerous awards for its field-to-fork meat, sausages and pies. If you can’t make it to the farm they also have an online store. The luxe ‘After Dinner’ hamper (£49.99) includes biscuits and quince jelly for the cheeseboard, coffee to partner the after-dinner mints and ruby Port.

This butchers has been been trading at Smithfield Market since 1850 and supplies meat to many top London restaurants and hotels. The company also sells directly to the public via its website, offering a wide variety of best quality cuts and speciality meats, such as Bayonne ham, Bresaola, kangaroo rump steaks and crocodile fillets.
