Selfridges has teamed up with children’s charity The Art Room to stage an installation of Race Furniture’s ‘BA2’ chairs in the store’s atrium space. Originally designed by mid-century designer Ernest Race, each of the 90 chairs on show has been given a modern makeover by a contemporary creative – think architect David Chipperfield, fashion designer Alice Temperley and Lulu Lytle, founder of furniture brand Soane.
Suspended mid-air in an installation curated by arts consultancy Fair & Co, the chairs are all dramatically different: look out for Chipperfield’s minimal pale-wood design and Lytle’s striking yellow chair, which sports a pair of wings.
All the chairs are available to buy at online auctioneers Paddle8. Bidding ends on June 9 http://paddle8.com/auction/theartroom
