French design studio Nara has burst onto the scene with ‘Family’, a collection of playful pieces designed for both adults and children alike. Part adventure, part nostalgia, the collection bears similarities with the avant-grade work of Holloway Li or Miniforms.

Made up of six pieces with different functions and ‘characteristics’, each design can be rolled, stacked or turned upside down depending on your needs. ‘They are modular in many different ways – different compositions are possible, these are almost limitless, a reflection of the user’s imagination,’ Nara explains.

While each block has different functions, they can be broadly categorised into a sofa (£8,000), two chairs (£3,000), a coffee table (£2,500), side table (£1,800) and a footrest (£1,800). As the name ‘Family’ suggests though, the elements work best when grouped together, forming playful compositions and quirky shapes.

They have all been upholstered in brightly coloured textiles by the Danish textile studio Kvadrat, which means that they work just as well inside a living room as they do in a classroom setting. ‘The furniture offers both durable support and comfort for a workspace or a home,’ says Nara, which designs and manufactures all of its pieces in France.

Founded in Paris in 2022 by South Korean set designer Nara Lee and French-American photographer David Luraschi, Nara’s distinctive creative identity draws on the founders’ backgrounds in photography and set design. Watch this space as the young brand is one to keep on your radar. nara.world
