The story of Molteni & C began 90 years ago in the furniture-making homeland Brianza, and today it is inseparable from the narrative of Italian design itself. It’s a tale that deserved to be told in style, and new coffee-table tome Molteni Mondo: An Italian Design Story is previewing during Milan design week and available from September.

The book, says Giulia Molteni, head of marketing and communication, and the granddaughter of founders Angelo and Giuseppina Molteni, ‘is cinematic in its scope, affording an unprecedented and authoritative look at the company’s present, past and future’.

Introduced by French architect and regular Molteni & C collaborator Jean Nouvel, and peppered with portraits of some of the brand’s favourite designers (including Yabu Pushelberg in full Wild West mode, top) shot by acclaimed photographer Jeff Burton, it explores not only the people behind its iconic designs, but also the places, from its Giussano compound to museums and the many stores around the world.
