On the evening of 26 June, ELLE Decoration readers and design enthusiasts lucky enough to have secured a ticket for our latest in-person event gathered at King Living’s showroom in west London’s Westfield. The Australian furniture brand’s dedication to stylish, ultra-comfortable seating ensured a relaxed atmosphere for an insightful discussion about how to create a dream living room between Editor-in-Chief Ben Spriggs and renowned interior designer Alex Dauley.

There was debate about everything from layout to lighting and how to choose the colours and patterns that work for you (see the full video of the masterclass, above, to pick up some expert tips) – plus, every one present took home a gift worth more than £100.

Founded in 1977, and having landed on UK shores for the first time in 2022, King Living has quickly grown a design fanbase thanks to its combination of contemporary style (every piece of furniture is conceived by an in-house design team in Sydney) and quality craftsmanship.

What's everyone reading?

Our Design Insiders masterclass may have focused on the living room, but there are designs for every room in the house, including modular sofas, chairs, tables, beds, desks and lighting. During the talk, Ben Spriggs and Alex Dauley sat in ‘Fleur Tub’ chairs, their curved form and swivel base making them the ideal accent seat, while guests lounged on sofas like the new modular ‘Aura’, the ‘Zaza’, with its adjustable arms and back, and the groovily cosy ‘1978 High Back’ lounge chair. There was an opportunity afterwards for everyone to fully explore the full range.

King Living’s furniture is crafted from quality materials such as leather, and bouclé made from renewable and biodegradable Australian wool, as well as suede and linen in shades of baked clay, eucalyptus and burnt umber inspired by the landscape of the Australian outback. Its frames are made from galvanised steel (originally inspired by King’s discovery of a steel suspension system used in European cars, guaranteed for 25 years), and every piece benefits from the brand’s signature combination of own-design memory foam and feather overlay that moulds to the body.

As Alex Dauley advised during her masterclass, achieving true comfort is about asking yourself, ‘How do I want to live?’. ‘It’s your home. Fill it with pieces that speak to you. Things that you love. You just need to come downstairs and it puts a smile on your face.’ kingliving.co.uk
