What to watch out for at 3daysofdesign 2023
This month will see 3daysofdesign return to Copenhagen. Here, we’ve put together the events to watch out for when in the Danish capital, including installations by Swing Furniture, Tom Dixon and Fredericia
Ahead of the upcoming tenth edition of 3daysofdesign, we’ve selected the events, product launches and talks from over 280 exhibitors that we’re most looking forward to this year.
To celebrate the anniversary, industry leaders from the realms of furniture, lighting, accessories and materials will showcase their work across 13 new design districts across the city of Copenhagen, which will serve as the backdrop to the entire festival. Read on for our cream of the crop.
The exhibition
Head to the Danish equivalent of London's Design Museum, Designmuseum Danmark to see 'The Magic of Form', an exhibition curated specially to coincide with 3daysofdesign. Iconic design pieces by the pioneers of modern Danish design – such as Arne Jacobsen’s 'Series 7' Chair and Verner Panton’s 'Globe Pendant' – will be on show alongside artworks by Alexander Calder and Henri Matisse.
The installation
Nisse and Kajsa Strinning's Swedish furniture brand String will present new blue, purple and green versions of its popular 'String Pocket' shelving unit. Elsewhere, it will exhibit the 'Pira G2' shelving system – a contemporary redesign of a classic piece from 1954. Its designers, architect Anna von Schewen and the industrial designer Björn Dahlström, will be at the fair introducing the system on June 7 and 8 from 1-2 pm.
The food
On June 9, Nomad Studio's founder and creative director Jutta Werner, will host 'Catching up with the Speed of Slow Rug Design', a dining event with a menu boasting "soul food and delicious snacks". The ethical brand will also launch its first design collaboration, a carpet collection made with Josephine Akvama Hoffmeyer.

The experience
In true experimental fashion (the designer once appeared as a hologram at 3daysofdesign), British designer Tom Dixon will present a live performance that combines technology and design. In partnership with Bruun Rasmussen auction house, the event will see a robot carve and mill bespoke versions of Dixon's recently launched 'Cone' lights. The designer will also give a presentation on his one-off 'Bird Eelgrass' sculpture.
The meet and greet
Head to Fredericia's Copenhagen showroom on June 7 at 10 am to meet Danish designer Maria Bruun, who will be available for casual conversations and informal discussions. The designer, who is known for her carefully considered, sculptural designs will also present her latest design for Fredericia, a new upholstered collection of 'Pioneer' stools.
The material
Spend half a day on June 8 delving into the world of innovative new materials by attending Materials of Tomorrow, an exhibition by SPACE10, Material Matters and Office Kim Lenschow. Discover work by a new generation of designers and architects over the course of the day and hear about sustainable alternatives via panel discussions and talks.
The acoustic experience
For 3DaysinDesign the leaders of craftsmanship in technology Bang & Olufsen will be inviting people to experience the design process of its new speaker, the ‘A5’, created in collaboration with GamFratesi. Wrapped in paper raffia, just like the speaker itself, the space will be a chance to see the piece from sketch to reality. Plus, Prolog Coffee will be serving an essential pick-me-up, while playing a record of their choice.
The concept
Frama will open its showroom doors to the public and 3daysofdesign visitors for 'Il Mercato,' (which translates to 'the market' in English), a conceptual event designed to celebrate food culture. The studio's furniture, lighting, textiles and other home accessories will be set against a backdrop of local produce and Frama's seasonal eatery, Apotek 57.
