How to give your home a lavender and butter yellow makeover inspired by the films of Tim Burton
It’s the pre-halloween interiors update that you weren’t expecting, featuring pretty hues that conceal a dark side
Lavender and buttery yellow are two colours that have seen a rise in popularity among interior designers, but don’t be fooled into thinking they’re purely a pretty choice. Here, we delve into the whimsical dark side of these sugary hues, inspired by the twisted films of the great Tim Burton. For this palette, we looked to one of our favourite Burton films, Edward Scissorhands, where the pastel-hued saccharine sweetness of the on-screen suburb and its inhabitants hides something darker and more rotten at the core.
Burton worked with production designer Bo Welch and art director Tom Duffield, with whom he had collaborated on the original Beetlejuice, to transform the homes on a real-life street in Lutz, near Tampa, Florida. This edit of furniture, homeware and lighting will help you achieve the film’s look – just in time for a very different kind of halloween decorating.
