‘Too old, too elegant, too boring, too complicated…’ When planning the style of this family home in Warsaw, Marta Chrapka, founder of interior-design firm Colombe, discarded many ideas in search of the perfect blend of unpretentious, fun and liveable.
By adding framed pops of vibrant pattern to a simple white palette, she has landed
on a look that’s guaranteed to make family life more fun.
In the living room, the abundance of light is maximised by white walls, with sections covered in ‘Arty’ linen fabric by Pierre Frey. Marta used fabric here because this abstract pattern only came in a vinyl wallpaper and she preferred the linen’s finish. Details are important to Marta, and her studio offers an upholstery service as well as carpentry and metalwork.

The layout of this home meant that it wasn’t possible to combine the two living areas into one open-plan space, so the interior designer celebrated the separation instead, adding glazing to the arched doorways. Both rooms now have their own unique atmosphere, with both showcasing Marta’s affinity with pattern.
Continuing her approach of using bold designs in constrained patches, Marta has applied Farrow & Ball’s ‘Aranami’ wallpaper to panels on either side of the family bathroom. Meanwhile, in the kids’ room there’s a panel of Maison C’s ‘Tancho’ wallpaper above the beds.
Part of the brief for the design of this home was that the childrens’ rooms should be able to adapt with their growing occupants. At present, the two youngest children share one room, but in the future, the adjoining playroom will be used to create separate spaces. A home that’s ready for the future, but doesn’t take life too seriously? Perhaps that’s what we all need right now. colombe.pl
