Rifle through any kitchen cupboard in the UK and you’d be hard-pressed not to find a product by Joseph Joseph, so ubiquitous has the homeware brand become in the 22 years since founders Richard and Antony Joseph designed their first glass chopping board.

Renowned for their ability to ‘make everyday tasks simpler and more efficient’, the twin brothers have built their empire on turning commonplace items, such as mixing bowls and lemon squeezers, into chic gadgets that not only look great but, crucially, are also suited to contemporary lifestyles. ‘Our core philosophy has always been about identifying everyday problems and designing smart, elegant solutions,’ says Richard. ‘Since the beginning, our designs have blended form and function.’

The company now sells its wares in more than 100 countries and has offices around the world. This year alone, it’s set to launch a staggering 120 new products. Everything is still designed in London, using a winning formula that marries good sense with ingenuity. ‘Whether it’s a common kitchen frustration, a household inefficiency or simply an overlooked task that could be improved, we brainstorm potential solutions and iterate through extensive prototyping and testing to refine each idea,’ Antony explains.

The resulting products are easy to distinguish on shelves at John Lewis & Partners (the brand’s biggest retailer) with their signature refreshingly bright colours and tactile forms.Over the years, Joseph Joseph has moved on from its humble beginnings and expanded its expertise to bathroom organisation, storage and waste management. Last year, the brand released its first exclusive print collaboration with upcoming artist and printmaker Jonathan Lawes, who updated four of its bestselling laundry products in graphic patterns for the collection. It was, the brothers say, a mark of their commitment to ‘championing emerging talent within the design industry’.

And 2024 saw them move even further into the cooking arena with ‘Space’, the brand’s first range of pots and pans. ‘We’re always adapting our materials and processes to meet these evolving needs while staying true to our original mission: making life easier,’ Richard says. It’s this attitude that keeps Joseph Joseph a cut above the rest. josephjoseph.com
