My treasured objects are two Christmas stockings that were given to me by the children’s author Dr Seuss’s wife Audrey Geisel one Christmas in San Diego. I more or less lived in the city with my partner for about 25 years; we had a house right on the sea just above La Jolla. I used to make clothes for Audrey – she was a big personality in town.
We used to organise a wonderful Christmas dinner together where we would exchange memorable gifts. One time, I gave Audrey some huge dishes and jugs that I designed with Royal Doulton. Audrey had all these things that were very Dr Seuss-like and mad. They would have been made on behalf of the Seuss organisation.
The stockings are very exotic – I don’t think I can imagine putting things in them! One’s got reindeer horns and is exquisitely embroidered with a very friendly face and holly on the bottom. The other is very long and pointy, draped with ivy leaves; there’s this funny little figure with hands sticking out and little red feet peeking out.

I’m a maximalist. I have boxes of Christmas decorations andI get one real Christmas tree every year that I drape with a lot of artificial stuff, as well as lots and lots of baubles. These stockings are part of a collection that came back from America with me.I hang them all in a row on the top of my screen as if I have a mantelpiece, so they look pretty. They are my Christmas keepsakes– a way that I will always remember those times. The Fuli x Zandra Rhodes rug collection is available now, from £3,354, fuli-carpet.com
