For its first ever collaboration, H&M Home has enlisted the talents of New York-based designer, potter and author Jonathan Adler, who has created a capsule collection for the brand in his colourful and irreverent signature style.
Known for his playful ceramics and statement decorative objects, Adler’s belief is that your home should make you happy. Having established his brand in 1993, the designer has challenged the status quo of interior design ever since with his trademark wit (Adler’s manifesto includes statements such as: ‘We believe minimalism is a bummer’ and ‘If your heirs won’t fight over it, we won’t make it.’) and cheeky, flamboyant aesthetic.
With Adler’s fun-loving attitude in mind, the collaboration focuses on the social areas of the living room and lounge and includes sculptures, vases, trays, mugs and textiles, which feature bold accents, striking patterns and motifs that raise a smile. All pieces have been designed from scratch.
‘I love collaborations because I’m a restless designer: the more I make the more I want to make. A good collaboration is like dating: you get to know each other in the beginning and then love – and a fabulous collection – blossoms,’ says Adler. ‘I’ve had a long-standing hunch that I loved the Swedes, and with this collaboration I learned I was right.’
Adler’s pick of the collection is the illustrated urn (above): ‘I love how it came out; the faces have just the right blank stare. Plus I’m having a real love affair with ostrich feathers, and I think this is the perfect piece for a plume.’
‘Our first design collaboration is a wonderful opportunity to continue championing personal style in the home and we could not have found a better partner than Jonathan Adler. His boundless energy and passion for irreverence is infused in every piece of this collection and we’re so excited to be offering our customers a glimpse into the Jonathan Adler world,’ says Evelina Kravaev Söderberg, H&M Home’s head of design and creative.
The Jonathan Adler and H&M Home collection will be in selected stores and online at from 14th November. hm.com
