Jamb founders Will Fisher and Charlotte Freemantle chose wisely when they decided to partner with designers Auston Moro and Eliza Dabron of Moro Dabron on their first candle. Understanding that a beautiful candle should appeal to almost all the senses – giving a soft glow and an evocative fragrance when lit, while looking and feeling lovely when its flame isn’t burning – they have worked together to create an object inspired by their love of the ancient world.
The result looks like a souvenir brought home from an 18th century aristocrat’s Grand Tour – something excavated from an archaeological site or salvaged from the sea bed after centuries. The vessel itself was inspired by a Bronze Age wheel in the British Museum which was cast and hand-patinated at Jamb’s London workshop to give it a uniquely textured verdigris surface.
As for the scent, it’s intended to evoke the atmosphere of an English country house, with notes of smoke, precious woods, amber and black pepper combining to create a scent reminiscent of a log fire in a library filled with antiques, with a hint of fresh air blowing in from outdoors.
With its considered design, Jamb’s first candle is something to be enjoyed in the present and passed on as an heirloom of the future. £280, moro-dabron.com
