During London Design Festival, ELLE Decoration partnered with MAH Gallery on the launch of its new concept space, The House, located on Vyner Street in east London. It is, according to MAH founder Laura Fulmine, ‘an all-encompassing vision’. Somewhere for her to explore working with designers and makers, as well as the extensive roster (110 and growing) of artists she currently represents.
As well as the ELLE Decoration and MAH teams, guests for its grand opening included some of the cream of the design world. These included interior designer Linda Boronkay, Gergei Erdei, Tatjana von Stein of Sella Concept, Fred Rigby (the stylish furniture maker behind many of the pieces on display, including a bespoke curved metallic fireplace), founders of The Well, Kane Sarhan and Rebecca Parekh, and Camille Walala known for her colourful interventions on public streets and buildings. Also in attendance were top stylists, Despina Curtis, Rebecca McEvoy and Hannah Bort, as well as photographers Ben Anders and Jake Curtis. And that’s just a sprinkling of the talent present.
Discussing the event, Editor-in-Chief Ben Spriggs commented: ‘It’s great to see the London Design Festival really back up-to-speed after the pandemic and I’m so thrilled that ELLE Decoration is able to celebrate the vibrant creative community of east London at such an inspiring venue and with the perfect partners onboard.’
Indeed, our partners were crucial to making this event go with a swing. X-Muse Vodka (pronounced ‘Tenth Muse’) is not just a beautiful bottle, but also a spirit blended using barley, a traditional method that has its roots in the history of Scottish spirit making. The brand also, fittingly, has a deeply personal link to the world of design.
Its glass bottle, which is attractive enough to grace the most refined of bar carts, is inspired by Cells of Life a landscape artwork created by Charles Jencks for Jupiter Artland, located in the grounds of Bonnington House, near Edinburgh. ‘The bottle’s silhouette,’ says X-Muse co-founder Vadim Grigoryan, ‘echoes the artworks tiered, sloping grass banks and emphasises how important water is to the X Muse concept.’
Also, keeping glasses topped up and conversation flowing was Carbo Wines. This high-end bottle shop and importer works exclusively with vineyards that follow organic, low-intervention and natural growing methods. None of their tipples have ever been touched by a chemical. xmusevodka.com; carbowines.com
