So we find ourselves at the start of a new year, with all the hope, positivity and good intentions that entails. As ever, it’s definitely the perfect time to consider a refresh. The observant among you will notice the magazine itself has had a couple of tweaks, with some revised design elements, improved layouts and new features, including our now-monthly Luxe List, highlighting our favourite pieces of outstanding luxury craftsmanship.
At home, you might be considering a similar rethink or new approach, whether that’s simply tidying out the kitchen drawers or planning a more ambitious renovation. And while my own works are still not off the ground, I’ve promised myself 2026 will be the year they’ll actually happen!
In the meantime, in my opinion, there’s no better way to survive the dark, grim days of January and February than by hunkering down and focusing on all the great transformations that will take place in the months ahead. The best place to do this is of course the living room, and as it’s the space in our homes I’m asked about most often, we’re revisiting the best lounge designs from the past 12 months to pique your interest and help if you’re planning a revamp there.

Speaking of revamps, this is also the time in the calendar when many focus on wellbeing, embracing new habits to try to shift those extra pounds that are the unfortunate consequence of a Christmas well spent. As someone who has been on their own fitness journey in 2025, I’m a firm advocate that a healthy way of life should be year-round, not something that falls by the wayside as Dry January ends, or like that gym membership that only gets used for a few weeks as long as the resolutions hold.
As is often the case, design has the answer, and a more long-term perspective can be found in the rise of home gyms as well as beautifully designed public-wellness spaces, both of which we examine in this month’s special Focus section. Let’s face it: training with half-rate equipment in dingy, sweaty basements was never going to inspire anyone.
Of course, starting the year in tip-top condition is not only an aesthetic consideration; it also means you’ll be well-placed with the energy and inclination to tackle the events on the horizon. Here at ELLE Decoration, we’re already planning how to best bring you all the innovations and inspirational new talents from the world’s top design showcases. We’re also looking to the newest hotel openings to investigate as we zip around the globe.
Being the best version of yourself in the best surroundings possible seems like the perfect mantra for 2026. We have so many plans and exciting projects coming up, and I cannot wait to tell you more in the coming days and months. Onwards!
